Wesleyan vs. Spalding (8/20/09): Wolves Come Up Short in Home Opener
Despite tallying 9 hits, the Lady Wolves were only able to produce 3 runs, which was not enough to top Spalding in Wesleyan's home opener. Wesleyan came out hot offensively led by Logan Morris and Erin Hall (Shock and Awe) and supported by CaraMia Tsirigos and Brittany Mitchell. The game was neck and neck through the 4th with the two teams trading runs in each half inning, but a missed interference call led to 2 runs for Spalding that the Lady Wolves couldn't match. Despite a late rally ignited by Holli Wilkins, the Lady Wolves came up short, losing 5-3. Offensively, Morris led the way going 3-4 with 2 runs scored, and Hall hit the biggest bomb of the night, a triple nearly over the fence, on her way to a 1-3 night with 1 run scored. Tsirigos provided a 2-4 night and Mitchell was 2-3. Mitchell also had a fine performance on the mound striking out seven and allowing only one walk. The Wolves defense, usually solid, was shaky in the home opener, but it was highlighted by an unassisted double play recorded by second baseman Morris. The Lady Wolves will surely bounce back from this disappointing loss with renewed focus and energy as they look to peak in October and get better everyday between now and then.

Wesleyan vs. Jefferson (8/24/09): Wolves Lose Hard Fought Battle to Jefferson
Jefferson broke open a tight battle with a four run fifth inning, and withstood a furious seventh-inning Wolves rally to hold on for the win. Caramia Tsirigos provided the lone Wesleyan run with a homer to lead off the seventh, and Wesleyan loaded the bases with two outs before Jefferson escaped with a hard-fought victory. In the loss Brittany Mitchell pitched seven solid innings and Logan Morris went 2 for 2 with a walk, single and a triple. The loss dropped the Wolves to 0-2 on the year.
